A couple of places you won't find on any map, or at Google,
because, guess what? they are gone!
But they are not forgotten.
I am gonna let their 'freak flag' fly high, 'cause I loved 'em.
Bonk's Jawbone Canyon Store
Northeast of Mojave Ca., on Rt 14, which turns into Rt 395,
which takes you eventually to Reno NV.
Bonk's had everything you could possibly want
in a place like this - drinks, sandwiches, sunglasses, dirt-biking gear
(a popular off-road/dirt biking space is nearby,
called appropriately enough 'JawBone Canyon'.)
maps, you name it - if you needed it, it was here.
Including a sleepy cat, under the old theatre chair (lower left).
Last time I drove by, it was closed & boarded up, with a 'For lease' sign
prominently displayed.
Below - 'Moby's Place'
Located along Rt 247 from Barstow to Joshua Tree.
Put together by an old 'desert rat' kinda guy who said his 8th wife
helped him with it all.
(8 wives?? move over, Elizabeth Taylor!)

The last time I drove by, a few years ago,
it was all gone, nothing left.
I suspect the ol' guy died, and if anyone inherited it?...
they had no interest in continuing his work, and put the land up for sale.
One of 'Moby's' claims to fame' was an enormous collection of BMW motorcycle parts.
He told me people came from Germany to check out his stuff.
No other place like this...no way, no how! - one of a kind!
